NXT Takeover Toronto Results
Here are the full results of WWE NXT Takeover in Toronto, and we will jot down the best moments of the PPV.
Bobby Roode vs. Tye Dillinger
"Glorious" Bobby Roode defeated Tye Dillinger in a singles match.
Opening the PPV with a group of choir singers singing his theme song "Glorious", Bobby Roode made his entrance in NXT Takeover. Sporting his silver and black robe, Roode enters with class as the Ex-TNA star enters the WWE Ring. Next up is Tye Dillinger making his entrance which received a somehow "huge pop" from the crowd.
The match was filled with intensity, as both men traded blows with each other, knowing that the backstory is somewhat personal as Dillinger was left by Roode high and dry and beaten up by Eric Young's team Insanity.
Both men traded chops, and some moves we've seen were Roode's signature spinebuster, then Dillinger's emphatic counterkick to Roode. Bobby Roode was also caught in a sharpshooter by Dillinger, and almost tap out but nah...
The Result: Bobby Roode win via pinfall after hitting DDT on Dillinger.
TM-61 vs. Authors of Pain (Dusty Rhode Tag Team Classic Finals)
Next up is the finals for the Dusty Rhode tag team classic tournament....
First to enter are the Authors of Pain (Akar and Rezam) with Paul Ellering, then followed by TM-61(Shane Thorne and Nick Miller). Of course, this would be another David vs. Goliath match as we would see the battle of Authors of Pain's strength and intensity vs Tm-61's speed and agility.
To make sure that AOP's manager, Paul Ellering would not interfere, he is locked up in a prison like structure and was harnessed above the ring.
Early pain starts as AOP dominates early in the bout, Nick Miller tries to fight back, and launched a vicious suicide dive to AOP outside the ring.
Tm-61 tries to fight them off, but still, it's AOP's strength which serves as a difference maker in the match up.
The Result: AOP win via pinfall after hitting their destructive russian leg sweep - clothesline combo, making them the winner of the Dusty Rhode Tag Team classic.
#DIY vs. The Revival (NXT Tag Team Championship)
First ones who entered are the number one contenders #DIY (Tommasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano), followed by the champions Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder, collectively known as The Revival.
Anticipated as another tag team match classic, both teams never disappoint as they traded each other with their classic moves.
1st Pinfall goes to The Revival as they hit Gargano with the Shatter Machine.
#DIY bounce back with Gargano using his high flying ability against the champions, then followed by the momentum shift delivered by #DIY.
2nd pinfall goes to #DIY after pinning the revival and avenge their early loss.
Momentum continued for #DIY for the third round, but then was stealed by the Revival, but #DIY still pushed back after a miscommunication superkick of Wilder to his Revival team mate Thorne.
The Result: #DIY win via submission after hitting their signature moves on The Revival, winning the NXT Tag Team championship.
Meanwhile, Good ol' JR (Jim Ross) is back, and was seen as part of the audiences watching the event.
Asuka vs. Mickie James (NXT Women's Championship)
Starting the co-main event was the match for the NXT Women's Championship between the undefeated champion Asuka, versus the returning Mickie James.
The Returning Mickie James, received a huge ovation from the Toronto crowd, as she is back after years to face Asuka for the champiuonship.
It's the match of classic vs. modern wrestling, as these two wrestled in the Toronto ring. Both women traded with antics and their signature moves, Then Asuka hit Mickie James with Suplex in the ring floor.
Asuka dominated the next minutes of the matchup, as she throws James across the ring, then Mickie counters with a Boston Crab followed by a neck wrench submission to Asuka. Asuka fires back with chops and kicks to James. Mickie James countered Asuka with a mick kick.
The Result: Asuka win via submission after locking in the cross face chicken wing submission to Mickie, retaining the NXT Women's championship.
The Main Event: Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (NXT Championship)
"The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe is the first one who made his entrance, then followed by a spectacular entrance by "King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura.
The match was another wrestling classic in this second book in the Nakamura-Joe rivalry as both titans traded high impact moves with each other.
Even with an injured knee, Joe still managed to bring the pain to Nakamura, even doing a suicide dive on the King. But the Champion, Nakamura, never backed down and hits Joe with powerful strikes, and even hitting Joe with his finisher, The Kinshasa!
The Result: Samoa Joe win via pinfall after hitting the muscle buster on Nakamura, dethroning the King of the NXT Championship.
